Christmas in NYC can be super chaotic, especially with how packed the Bryant Park, Union Square, and Times Square Christmas markets can get. Though you can’t really go anywhere without a long line or massive crowds, the Church of Sweden still offers a quieter and less chaotic experience.

Beware: during the holiday season lines can get really long. I waited for about an hour to checkout (it is also the same line where you buy bakery items, so factor that into your plans!)

I recommend checking out the basement shop first and then browsing the goods on the first floor while you wait in line to pay. I saw these cute gnome candles and immediately had to get one. It was $14 for the medium size and $10 for the small size.

Afterwards, make your way to the first floor where the checkout line runs along shelves stocked with various Swedish textiles, candies, and gifts. I picked up the Felix brand lingonberry jam, recommended by a Swedish woman who stood behind me in line. She told me she had been part of the Church of Sweden for forty years, so I trust her judgement!

I got the saffron bun, cardamom bun, and an open-faced meatball sandwich. They were delicious!

Lastly, I enjoyed the meal on the second floor which offers a nice view over the entire shop:

Of course, the Church of Sweden is open year-round; the added holiday festivity makes it extra delightful to shop now. No matter when you visit, I hope you enjoy your time!
